According to a recent press release from the Illinois State Police District 12 a two vehicle injury crash occurred this morning Saturday, November 19th at 2:29 am on I-70 Eastbound, just 1 mile east of Montrose. Involved was Akeel A. Alzayadi ,52, of Detroit, MI (unit 1). Alzayadi was driving a Volvo Truck Tractor Pulling a box semi trailer and no passengers with him at the time. Adam D. Groff, 35, of Independence, MO (unit 2) was driving a freight liner truck tractor pulling a box semi trailer also with no passengers with him at the time.
Preliminary details state unit 1 was parked or moving at a slow pace in the right lane with no vehicle lights on at the time on I-70 eastbound one
mile east of Montrose. Unit 2 was also in the right lane and was unable to see unit 1, unit 2 then rear ended unit 1. Unit 1 came to rest disabled in the right lane of traffic. Unit 2 came to rest in the right ditch. Both units where transported by ambulance to St Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham.
Alzayadi has been charged with no lights when required, and violating minimum speed regulation.
