According to WTHI online, If you enjoy sugared beverages and live in Illinois, you might be seeing an increase in some of your favorite sweetened drinks. Senator Toi Hutchinson filed a bill last week that would require drink distributors to have a penny-per-ounce of sugar/sweeteners tax on retailers (possibly then to consumers). So a typical soda pop could cost at least 20 cents more if passed into law. Many are worried, because it just seems to add to the taxes, but unfairly to a specific group of sodas, juices, and sports drinks consumers drink. According to a report, the tax would make about $560 million for the state’s General Fund.
