According to WCIA online, in Illinois a new proposed bill on the senate floor will have a tax increase on what some consider to be luxury services, like massage therapy. Others consider massage therapy isn’t all about a luxury, for some it’s a health care necessity. State Senators were getting calls this week from not only massage therapists, but people who receive these services saying it helps take care of their bodies, not just for relaxation. Some clients have chronic pain they deal with on a daily basis that doctors can’t diagnose, but still need treatment to help relieve the pain. More often then not that’s what massage therapists consider themselves, as more on the healthcare beneficial side to their business. The proposed bill would increase these services with a 6% service tax. But what also has people worried is if the massage therapy isn’t included in the tax increase, something else would have to replace it. For the 2018 budget they are more in the red and either have to make cuts, or start finding revenue. Senators are also encouraging for people to voice their opinions on any proposed bills and let your legislators know, because a phone call can go a long way.
