According to WCIA online, the Trump Administration is looking to defund the 21st Century Community Learning Centers. More than 52,000 students in Illinois depend on this funding for after school programs. Without it many would be devastated and not only be a risk for kids not to have, but the community. The juvenile crime rate would go up, since kids would have no where to go and time on their hands are concerns that Senator Dick Durbin has voiced. The Trump Administration thinks that there isn’t a correlation to juvenile crime rate and after school programs, that there isn’t enough evidence proving it. Programs like the Boys & Girls Club for Central Illinois would lose more than $800,000 in funding and be forced to close down 9 of it’s after school programs. Senator Durbin also argues that the administration should take a closer look at the numbers these programs provide before cutting off funds.
