Irma Continues To Weaken
(Tampa, FL) — Irma is weakening to a Tropical Storm today and the center is expected to cross the eastern Florida Panhandle into southern Georgia on Monday afternoon before heading into Alabama. Florida first-responders are searching for casualties and trying to assess the extent of the damage after yesterday’s raging waters and triple-digit winds slammed into the state. Irma is blamed for at least three deaths across the Sunshine State. Nearly six-million customers in Florida are without power today. At least 24 people were killed by the storm when it hit parts of the Caribbean.
President Trump says the full weight of the federal government is being marshaled in response to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Speaking at the Pentagon this morning, Trump offered thoughts and prayers for those who have been affected by the storms. He called Irma and Harvey storms of catastrophic severity. Trump made the remarks at a ceremony marking the 16th anniversary of 9-11.
