According to a press release from the Mattoon Police Department, Anthony J. Arnone, age 36 of Mattoon, was arrested on Sunday Sept. 17th at 1:56 p.m. in the 2300 block of Marshall Ave. He was charged with Aggravated Assault, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Threatening a Public Official, Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer, and Possession of Synthetic Cannabis.
The incident began when Arnone was walking in the 2400 block of Broadway Ave., and became involved in an argument with a senior citizen. Arnone created a breach of the peace by yelling and threatening to shoot the man while reaching into his waistband (no weapon was found). Upon police being called Arnone fled. He was apprehended on Marshall Ave. Arnone proceeded to threaten violence against a police officer’s family, struggled with and spit at police officers, then bit one policeman on the arm. Arnone was also found to possess synthetic cannabis.
The policeman was treated and released at SBLHC for a bite to his forearm, and Arnone was taken to jail.
