Investigation Continues In Deadliest Mass Shooting In U.S. History
(Las Vegas, NV) — Police are still struggling to figure out why a 64-year-old man carried out the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. The shooter fired on a crowd of concert-goers from a 32nd floor window of the Mandalay Bay on the Las Vegas Strip Sunday night, killing 59 people and leaving more than 500 injured before turning a weapon on himself. Police say the gunman, identified as Stephen Paddock, had no criminal record and left no immediate hint of his motive. Paddock was not known to have served in the military or to have suffered from mental illness. Police say there is also no evidence of political discontent or radical views on social media.
Authorities in Las Vegas are still investigating how Paddock was able to sneak his arsenal into a 32nd-floor room at the Mandalay Bay. Police say Paddock wasn’t detected by security or housekeeping for the four days while he was at the hotel leading up to Sunday’s shooting. Investigators say the 64-year old Nevada resident managed to bring around 20 weapons into his room before opening firing on a crowd at a country music festival about 400 yards away.
As the investigation continues, some major airlines say passengers can change their flight plans to or from Las Vegas without fees. American Airlines, Delta Airlines and Alaska Airlines say they’re waving their fees today to help out after Sunday’s shooting massacre on the Strip. United Airlines is waving those change fees through Friday.
