Proposed Bill Would Give Rural Schools High-Speed Internet
(Springfield, IL) — A handful of Illinois lawmakers want to give more than 90-thousand students in rural districts access to high-speed internet. Democratic senators Andy Manar and Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, as well as Republican Senator Sam McCann, are sponsoring the bill. They say it would “bridge the digital divide” that hurts a lot of rural schools. If approved, the bill would cost anywhere between 75-and-420-thousand dollars per school.
