Anita Rae Brooks, age 84, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 3:15 AM – Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Aperion Care in Olney, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating Anita’s life will be held at 10:00 AM – Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at Central Christian Church in Newton, Illinois, with Scott Wilson and Dale Hood officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held at the 5:00-7:00 PM – Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the church. In loving memory of Anita, memorials may be made to the Central Christian Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Anita was born on August 19, 1933, in Newton, Illinois the daughter of Charles Milo and Thelma Cory (Shurtleff) Trainor. She married Robert Brooks on January 17, 1954, at Central Christian Church in Newton, Illinois, and he survives.
Anita retired from Newton Community High School as a secretary. She also helped her husband farm and served as secretary at Central Christian Church.
Anita was a faithful member of Central Christian Church and enjoyed painting and working crossword puzzles.
Anita is survived by: Husband of 64 years – Robert Brooks of Newton, Illinois, Children – Gregg (Chris) Brooks of Olney, Illinois and Laurie (Scott) Wilson of Newton, Illinois, Grandchildren – Kim (Robert) Newell of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; Lindsay (Dusty) Reagan of Highland, Illinois; Kelli Wilson of Lockport, Illinois and Jeff (Carole) Bruner of Ville Platte, Louisiana, 8 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great Great Grandchildren, Step Brother – Michael (Margie) McWhirter of Collinsville, Mississippi and Step Sister – Barbara Shelton of Collinsville, Mississippi.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, step mother Dorine Trainor, grandson Kyle Wilson and brother Eddie Trainor.
