Thomas H. McElroy, 95, of Tower Hill, passed away at 7:55 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Shelbyville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Shelbyville.
Thomas was born March 24, 1922, in Milam Township in Macon County, the son of L. Earl and Lola Pearl (Whitrock) McElroy. He married Velma Whitlatch and she preceded him in death on January 17, 1974. Thomas was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army. He was a truck driver and owned and operated Lakewood Feed and Supply for 17 years. He served as past president of the Illinois Old Fiddlers Association. He loved to play the fiddle and share his musical talent with the residents of area nursing homes and enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by son, Charles (Cyndi) McElroy of Lakewood; son-in-law, Mark (Bonnie) Cutler of Tower Hill; four grandchildren: Clint McElroy of Lakewood, Carissa (James) Cline of Findlay, OH, Lyle (Tracey) Cutler of Pana and Joel (Becky) Cutler of O’Fallon; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Velma; daughter, Linda Cutler; brothers, Halden McElroy and Harold McElroy; and sister Immo Clark.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Pastor Randy Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Burial will take place in Tower Hill Cemetery with military rites performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard.
