Two people were injured in an accident on Interstate 70 in Fayette County on Saturday.
Illinois State Police say that a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Alivia L. Drew of Champaign was westbound in the passing lane on Interstate 70. A tractor-trailer being operated by 31-year-old Rajinder Singh of Fresno, California was also traveling westbound in the right lane in the same location. Drew’s vehicle went off the roadway to the left and went down into the grass center median. Drew’s vehicle then re-entered the roadway, crossed the passing lane and struck the driver’s side rear tire on the trailer being pulled by Singh’s vehicle. After striking the tire, Drew’s vehicle then overturned onto its top and came to rest facing north in the passing lane.
Both Drew and a passenger, 23-year-old James L. Buford of Rantoul, were transported to Fayette County Hospital for treatment. Drew was charged with improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, illegal transportation of alcohol, littering, operating an uninsured vehicle, and obstructing an officer. Buford was also ticketed for illegal transportation of alcohol.
