On April 21st the MFLA will host the 2018 Daddy Daughter Dance Benefit in honor of Miss Emmalyn Baird. Emmalyn is the 7 year-old daughter of Tony and Amber Baird. She is also sister to Ryland, Jacksyn, Kayden, and Coltyn. She is a happy, busy girl who enjoys spending time with her family, going to church, playing with her dolls and beating everyone she can in Uno!
Emmalyn has a rare genetic seizure disorder known as PCDH19. She has seizures throughout the day and while she sleeps – these are hard to monitor. When Emmalyn was 14 months old she began having seizures. By the time she was 18 months old she was receiving treatment in both Indianapolis, IN and Cleveland, OH. In June of 2014 Emmalyn had surgery on the left temporal lobe of her brain and in January of 2015 Emmalyn was diagnosed with PCDH19. In November of 2016 a VNS was placed to help with seizures as well.
Most recently doctors have grown concerned about Emmalyn having multiple seizures while she sleeps because these are hard to monitor. They suggested the family look into a Sammy Sleep and Heart Rate Monitor. All money raised in this event will go directly to the Emmalyn Baird Benefit Fund at Casey State Bank in Martinsville to help offset the expenses incurred. Please join the MFLA for this very special event and share with your friends!
