UPDATED: Reports: Speaker Ryan Will Not Seek Re-Election
(Washington, DC) — Multiple reports say House Speaker Paul Ryan is not planning to run for re-election. The story was first reported by Axios then confirmed by NBC News. Ryan was asked why he is resigning this morning while entering a meeting on the hill and very quickly said “I am not resigning,” but it is widely assumed he was talking about not stepping down today rather that not running for re-election. Ryan has served in the House since 1999, and was tapped to be Mitt Romney’s VP running mate in the 2008 presidential election.
