SIU Looks To Layoff Workers At Closing Dorms
(Carbondale, IL) — If there isn’t a dorm, there’s no need to have people working in the dorm. That’s the logic behind Southern Illinois University’s planned layoffs for about 40 union workers on campus. The school announced the layoffs yesterday. All the jobs are tied to the closing of Mae Smith Hall and Neely Hall. Though not everyone will actually lose their job. SIU officials say they hope to find other positions at the school for the affected workers.
