Illinois Governor Proposes Limited Death Penalty
(Chicago, IL) — Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says it’s time to bring back the death penalty — in certain cases. Rauner is using an amendatory veto to introduce six gun measures, including reinstating the death penalty for mass murderers and those who kill police officers. Rauner denies that using an amendatory veto instead of the normal legislative procedure is designed to put death penalty opponents in political bind. He calls it good policy that’s widely supported. Rauner also wants a 72-hour waiting period for all guns and the right to temporarily take guns from a person posing an imminent danger.
