Hawaii Authorities: Evacuate Or Get Arrested
(Hawaii County, HI) — Residents defying mandatory evacuation orders due to lava flows from Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano could get arrested. Authorities on the Big Island issued a mandatory evacuation order last night for a subdivision in the path of what officials call vigorous lava eruptions. People in the Leilani Estates subdivision have until noon today to get out. The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency says emergency responders have no plans to rescue anyone who stays past the deadline. Lava from Kilauea has covered an area bigger than New York’s Central Park since the volcano started erupting four weeks ago.
