(Kansas City, KS) — One sheriff’s deputy is dead and another is in critical condition after a shooting outside a courthouse in downtown Kansas City. Both officers were shot during an inmate transfer this morning at the Wyandotte County Correctional and Court Services building. Investigators believe a prisoner may have grabbed one of the deputy’s guns and managed to fire it before also being shot. Officials identified the deputy who was killed as 35-year-old Patrick Rohrer. The identity of the wounded female deputy and the suspect were not released. Kansas City Police are investigating the shooting.
