(San Francisco, CA) — A San Francisco jury is awarding a former groundskeeper 289-million-dollars in a landmark case. The jury said Monsanto’s Roundup weedkiller caused the cancer in 46-year-old Dewayne Johnson. It concluded that the biotechnology giant failed to warn Johnson of the health hazards. Johnson was the first person to take Monsanto to trial. There are thousands of additional cases pending. During the month-long trial attorneys showed internal emails that they claimed showed the corporation ignored expert’s warnings, sought favorable analysis and helped create favorable research.
