(Washington, DC) — Former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush will speak at the memorial service for Senator John McCain today at Washington’s National Cathedral. Before he died, McCain personally asked his former rivals to speak at the service. President Trump is not invited. McCain and Trump had a contentious relationship. The 81-year old McCain died a week ago after a long battle with brain cancer. The Arizona Republican and decorated war veteran served in the Senate for three decades.
Other speakers at today’s service include McCain’s daughter Meghan, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former Senator Joe Lieberman. McCain has been lying in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. During this morning’s procession to the National Cathedral, the McCain motorcade will stop at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial where McCain’s wife Cindy will lay a wreath. McCain will be buried tomorrow at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
