NFL Sunday kicked off with two Miami Dolphins players kneeling during the national anthem. Wide receivers Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson are the first players of the 2018 regular season to kneel in protest. Both players kneeled in preseason and said they planned to continue it in the regular season. Stills said he would consider stopping if the NFL rehires former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick began kneeling in 2016 to quietly protest racial inequality and police brutality.
President Trump took notice of the player’s actions this morning and tweeted about it. He wrote “NFL first game ratings are way down over an already really bad last year comparison. Viewership declined 13%, the lowest in over a decade. If the players stood proudly for our Flag and Anthem, and it is all shown on broadcast, maybe ratings could come back? Otherwise worse!”
