The Taliban says it will not attend planned peace talks with the U.S. this month in Saudi Arabia. A senior member of the Islamic militant group told Reuters today they are withdrawing from the talks because Saudi Arabia is pushing for the Taliban to meet with officials from Afghanistan. The Taliban is reportedly calling for a change of venue, and now wants to hold the peace talks in the Arab nation of Qatar [[ cutter ]], where the group has its political headquarters. The Taliban has been meeting with a U.S. diplomat in the past year in an effort to resolve the conflict in Afghanistan.
