Charges Dropped Against Only State Employee Fired In Flint Water Crisis
(Flint, MI) — The criminal case against former Michigan Department of Environmental Quality official Liane Shekter-Smith is being tossed. She was the only state employee fired over the Flint water crisis and had reached a plea deal last year with the state. Shekter-Smith’s defense attorney says she’s happy to put it behind her and will now fight to get her job back with what is now the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy. Shekter-Smith headed up the DEQ’s Office of Drinking Water and Municipal Assistance.
