US National Weather Service Central Illinois: Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 3:15pm.
A wintry pattern is setting up for central Illinois the next several days. Temperatures will turn much colder tonight and Thursday with blustery winds.
Lows tonight should range from 11 in Galesburg to 26 in Olney. Highs Thursday should range from 23 in Galesburg to 36 in Olney. A potent winter storm will move into the region Friday into Saturday, with snow spreading into central and southeast Illinois Friday, and a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain Friday evening as warmer air surges into the area for Friday night changing all precipitation to rain late in the night. Rain could be heavy at times.
The rain may mix with or briefly change to snow again Saturday as precipitation ends. Windy and sharply colder temperatures will follow for late in the weekend as lows fall to the single digits and lower teens Saturday night, followed by highs in the teens and lower 20s Sunday.
