Government Says Nearly All Americans Do Not Need To Worry About Coronavirus
(Chicago, IL) — Public health officials say the second case of the Wuhan coronavirus in the U.S. is a textbook example of how cases should be handled. They said the 60-year-old Chicago woman with the virus is doing well and remains in the hospital mainly to keep the infection from spreading. Officials stressed that there is very little risk to the public. Only Americans who have traveled recently to the Wuhan region of China need to worry. If that’s you, they urge you to call your doctor’s office and let them know in advance your symptoms and your recent travel before going to the office.
The first person in the U.S. with the coronavirus is in Washington state. Officials said they are monitoring all the people who came into contact with both patients. CDC officials say they are monitoring 63 others who might have infections in 22 states. Chinese officials announced that 26 people have died and another 900 have been infected with the coronavirus. China has taken aggressive action to contain the outbreak, shutting down travel and urging the public to remain at home.
