Stocks Tank On Coronavirus Fears, Dow Drops 450
(New York, NY) — Stocks are getting hammered as investors worry about the deadly coronavirus outbreak. Concerns about the impact of the virus on the world economy continue to rattle Wall Street. Shares in American and Delta both dropped more than three percent as the travel sector is being hit hard. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 454 points to close at 28-535. The S&P 500 lost 51 points to 32-43. The Nasdaq plunged 175 points to finish at 91-39.
Gaming stocks also lost ground today. Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts fell about seven percent. Travel stocks including Carnival, Marriott International and Expedia declined more than two percent. Caterpillar shares fell more than three percent as China’s coronavirus outbreak worsens. There are nearly three-thousand confirmed cases in China so far with more than 80 reported deaths.
