Senators Duckworth, Durbin Urge Amtrak To Change Disability Policy
(Normal, IL) — Amtrak is reviewing its nationwide disability policy after a meeting between company CEO Richard Anderson and U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin. The meeting followed an incident where the company mistakenly tried to charge a group of wheelchair riders 25-thousand dollars to travel from Chicago to Normal. Duckworth’s office says she is pleased the company is taking the issue seriously. Amtrak released a statement from Anderson saying that “substantial progress” had been made on accessibility issues, but there is room for improvement.
