Man Convicted Of Charges In Cyber Attacks That Targeted Alaska
(Juneau, AK) — An Illinois man is facing up to 35 years in prison after being convicted of cybercrime charges in connection to attacks in Alaska and across the U.S. The FBI Anchorage Field Office says a jury found 32-year-old Matthew Gatrel guilty late last week of three felony charges. Prosecutors say Gatrel operated distributed denial-of-service attacks around the U.S., including in Alaska. Gatrel made hundreds of thousands of dollars in the attacks. Gatrel’s co-defendant 28-year-old Juan Martinez pleaded guilty in connection to the attacks late last month.
