Cancer Death Rate Has Largest One-Year Drop Ever
(Washington, DC) — The cancer death rate experienced the largest one-year decline in history. According to the American cancer Society, the rate fell by two-point-two-percent from 2016 to 2017. The study shows that the drop was largely driven by a decline in deaths from lung cancer. Experts also believe the decline comes from a new form of treatment called immunotherapy, which trains a person’s immune system to fight cancer. Decreased number of cases of skin melanoma also contributed to significant declines in the death rate.
