Statue Of Limitations On Sexual Assault Reporting Ends
(Springfield, IL) — The statute of limitations on reporting sexual assaults in Illinois is no more. As of January 1st, there is no longer a time limit in which a victim must report an offense. The new law is not retroactive, however, and the three-year reporting period is still in effect for any assault committed prior to this year. Also under the prior law, anyone charged with sexual assault had to be prosecuted within ten years of it being reported.
