UPDATED: CDC Announces First U.S. Case Of Wuhan Coronavirus
(Washington, DC) — The Center for Disease Control is confirming the first U.S. case of Wuhan coronavirus has been diagnosed in Seattle, Washington. The CDC says it will be screening all passengers at Seattle-Tacoma airport as well as Atlanta and Chicago O’Hare. Officials say the patient in the U.S. is a male in his 30s and is currently in good condition. Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that are common among animals and if contracted, humans can exhibit common cold symptoms or possibly contract pneumonia. The virus was first identified in Wuhan, China last month, and as many as 300 cases have been reported and six people have died because of the virus. Yesterday, the head of a Chinese government expert team said human-to-human transmission of the virus had been confirmed.
