(Hamburg) — Secretary of State Rex Tillerson confirms a new ceasefire agreement in southwest Syria. He calls it a “de-escalation” agreement in the war-torn country. Parties to the deal include the U.S., Russia and Jordan. Tillerson is with President Trump at the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany. Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin for more than two hours yesterday. Tillerson is hopeful that the new ceasefire agreement will lead to a political solution in Syria. The U.S. has long-called for the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who is an ally of Russia.
