Illini’s Smith Encourages Players To Be Socially Active
(Urbana, IL) — University of Illinois football coach Lovie Smith says he tells his players to speak their minds and express their opinions. But the coach isn’t saying anything specific about players taking a knee during the national anthem. Smith on Monday said he encourages his players to be socially active. The Illini are usually still in the locker room when the national anthem is played, so there haven’t been any protests for the team so far this year.
