New Law Means DNA Swabs After Felony Arrests
(Indianapolis, IN) — Anyone arrested on a felony charge in Indiana can expect a cheek swab after Monday. One of Indiana’s new laws for the new year will require sheriffs or other arresting agencies in the state to take DNA samples of anyone arrested for a felony. If the charges are dropped, or the suspect is found not guilty, the DNA sample can be expunged. Lawmakers who approved the plan say a robust DNA database could catch people who are suspects in other crimes.
