Carle’s commitment to delivering high quality patient care is being recognized by two organizations that measure patient safety and best business practices.
Healthgrades has recognized Carle Foundation Hospital with the 2016 America’s 50 Best Hospitals
that, according to Healthgrades, “is recognized as the top 1% in the nation for consistent clinical quality.”
The International Standards Organization (ISO) has certified that Carle Health System meets ISO 9001 standards for demonstrating consistent quality care standards and business operations. Most often used in business and manufacturing sectors to assure efficiency and safety in operations and production, ISO now certifies high performing healthcare institutions that are able to meet high standards.
Carle is one of only five hospitals in the state, and the only one outside of the Chicago metro area, to have ISO certification. Carle is one of only seven hospitals in the state, and the only one downstate, to be a Healthgrades Top 50 Hospital.

In addition to achieving America’s 50 Best Hospitals recognition, Healthgrades honored Carle with the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ for the sixth straight year. It highlights hospitals that are in the top 5% in the nation for exhibiting “comprehensive and consistent quality across medical specialties based on an analysis of risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for common procedures and conditions.” Also, for the fifth consecutive year, Healthgrades named Carle among America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Critical Care Award™, recognizing “superior outcomes in treatment of pulmonary embolism, respiratory system failure, sepsis and diabetic emergencies.”

Meeting this designation was an important part of accreditation through Det Norske Veritas Germanischer Lloyd Healthcare, Inc., a hospital accreditation organization with some of the most rigorous standards in health care. Using a comprehensive three year process, Carle used a system training key employees as ISO auditors to regularly examine all departments, clinical and administrative, to insure work is consistent system-wide and insure employees were using the most up to date policies and procedures to provide a safe work environment and quality care.
