Illinois is receiving a large amount of money from the federal government to fight homelessness. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded nearly 89-million-dollars to over 360-local programs serving the homeless. HUD estimates there were over 564-thousand-people around the country experiencing homelessness on a single night in 2015.
