Charlene Lee (Edgar) Jenkins, 70, of Toledo, passed from this life at 5:30 p.m. on March 15, 2016, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO., after a long battle with heart failure. Charlene was born September 27, 1945, in Modesto, Calif., the daughter of Robert Wesley and Peggy D. (Farrier) Edgar. She married Rev. Jack Jenkins on May 25, 1963, in Oakland, CA.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Calvary Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Toledo, with the funeral at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22 at the church with Rev. David Stovall officiating. Burial will be in the Toledo Cemetery. Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo is in charge of arrangements.
She was a member of Calvary Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Toledo and active as the pastor’s wife for 42 years until the couple retired about three years ago. She loved entertaining and planned many special events and activities. Charlene was an accomplished pianist having played for camp meetings, conferences and churches. She was also an excellent seamstress and created bridal gowns and bridesmaids dresses for weddings. An excellent cook, she was talented at setting a beautiful table to complement the meal. Gardening and yard work were outside activities she thrived on. She enjoyed traveling and was a godly, patient, Christian woman. She loved the congregation at Calvary Tabernacle.
Charlene was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She leaves her mother Peggy Edgar of Toledo; husband, Rev. Jack Jenkins of Toledo; son, Kevin (Stephanie) Jenkins of Toledo; and grandchildren, Nick Jenkins and Hayley (Austin) Jabs of Neoga; brothers, Robert Larry (Gail) Edgar of Willows, Calif., Robert Allen (Connie) Edgar of Toledo; sisters, Carol (Robert) Bolinger of Alton, Brenda (Danny) Russell and Elaine (Ralph) Daugherty, all of Greenup; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Wesley Edgar and nephew, Justin Daugherty.
