A new proposal could make sure officers gets to retire with their K-9.
Currently, there is not a state law that allows an officer to retire with their four-legged assistant; instead, it is up the department to determine the situation.
According to WCIA-TV, the Police Dog Retirement Act would also allow K-9’s to stay with their handlers upon the retirement.
