The Lake Land College office of Community and Professional Programs will offer a variety of classes in the months of April and May. Whether you need to start at the beginning or just brush up on your skills, there is a class for you.
The course details and information are as follows
- Family – Family is an evolving word. As our definition of what makes a family, and society itself changes with every decade, it is increasingly harder for parents, children, educators, and professionals to keep up. This class provides information and open discussion on various aspects of family life, types of families, and examines the issues families are facing on national and global levels. Topics include marriage, divorce, single parenting, blending families, incarceration, the sandwich generation, abuse/neglect, juvenile delinquency, grandparents raising grandkids, discrimination, labeling, the boomerang generation, peer pressure, and the technology overload. This class will be held on Saturday, April 9 from
9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and the cost is $20.
- Adjustable Macramé Bracelet – Make two adjustable “one-size-fits-all” bracelets using macramé style square knots. The ends adjust when on your wrist so size of bracelet can be small or large. Nylon cords and a wide variety of beads provided by instructor. You learn these step by step so no previous experience with macramé needed. This class will be held on Monday, April 11 from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Life Span Center and the cost is $25.
- Afghan in 2 Sessions – Crochet a flower patterned afghan in strips during the first session. Join the strips and create the border with contrasting yarn the second session. Crocheting experience helpful, but not required as you will learn this step-by- step. Finished size: 36″ x 48″ but beginners can easily adjust size to smaller. This class will be held on Monday, April 11 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Life Span Center and the cost is $25.
- Beaded Earrings & Bracelet – You’ll learn the basics of beading by making two sets of stretch bracelets and two sets of matching earrings. These make great gifts. An assortment of beads, materials for stretch bracelets with faux clasps and findings for both clip-on and pierced earrings provided. This class will be held on Monday, April 18 from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Life Span Center and the cost is $25.
- Basic Cemetery Repair – Basic Cemetery Gravestone Care – Learn how to preserve a cemetery, find buried markers, approved cleaning methods, basic and advanced repairs, resources, laws and support groups. Classroom lecture and hands-on cemetery activity. John Heider, a professional conservator, will explain cemetery care and demonstrate gravestone repair. Enrollment is limited. This class will be offered on Saturday, April 23 from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and also on Wednesday, May 4 from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and the cost is $45.
- Crochet a Necklace & Bracelet – Make a lovely crocheted necklace with matching bracelet from ladder yarn. The 6 strand necklace and 4 strand bracelet look as though they are beaded. These make adorable gifts or bring a blouse to accessorize for yourself. You will learn to make these step-by-step so crocheting experience is not necessary. The instructor provides several colors of ribbon yarn. This class will be held on Tuesday, May 3 from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Life Span Center and the cost is $25.
- Towel Top & Pot Scrubbie – Crochet a kitchen towel top to hang on stove handle and a nylon net pot scrubbie to clean items as diverse as teflon pans, the bath tub, and automobile windshields. You will learn to make these step-by-step so crocheting experience is not necessary. Instructor Shirley Splittstoesser provides several colors of yarn, towels and precut nylon net. This class will be held on Tuesday, May 3 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Life Span Center and the cost is $25.
