It was a “Mega Day” of softball action at the Roundhouse in Mattoon on Saturday. The Lady Wave hosted Casey-Westfield and Cumberland in a three-team round robin.
In the first game, Casey-Westfield used a five-run 5th inning to defeat Mattoon 6-2. Lexie Black went the distance in the circle for the Warriors. The lefty allowed just four base hits in picking up the win. Conner Cutright had a double, single, two runs scored, and a run batted in for C-W.
In the second game, Casey-Westfield posted another 6-2 win, this time over Cumberland. The Warriors are now 4-0 this season.
In the final game, Mattoon bounced back for a 13-2 (five-inning) victory over Cumberland. The Lady Wave scored eight times in the 2nd inning to build a comfortable lead. The big blast came off the bat of Shelby Youngblood. The left-handed hitter launched a two-run homer high over the scoreboard in center field.
Both Mattoon softball games were broadcast on 101.3 WMCI and are available for playback on demand, powered by the Fellowship Center.
