The I-57 construction zone project at milepost 234.5 (just south of I-72 interchange) starts today. I-57 will be reduced to one lane in both directions until late November. Please use caution in the area. If possible, seek an alternate route. The Illinois State Police remind you that the fine for speeding in a work zone is $375 for first time offenders and $1,000 for a second offense, whether or not workers are present. If workers are present, you can lose your driver’s license for up to 90 days after a second violation. The penalty for hitting a worker is a fine up to $10,000 and 14 years in prison.
