I-57 Collision Requires Airlift for Mattoon Resident

A Mattoon man was airlifted to Carle Hospital following a two-vehicle accident on I-57 yesterday.  According to the Illinois State Police, Schuyler Switzer was attempting to stop and change lanes in response to emergency lights.  With both the shoulder and alternate lane occupied by vehicles, a tractor-trailer travelling behind Switzer was left with no way to avoid a collision.  An investigation is pending.
