The Mattoon City Council is considering a budget for the city that appears to be balanced after officials cut back over $750-thousand dollars in order to balance the budget. The proposed 2016-17 city budget projects $18.23 million in revenue and $18.18 million in expenses. Several line items had to be cut from the budget, such as money for replacing aging vehicles for city departments, as well as cutting down the funding to the Coles County Council on Aging. The council will vote on the proposed budget at their April 19th meeting.
