A state worker is suing Governor Rauner and other state officials, claiming the state budget impasse has left her and others without health insurance. Carrie Weeks-Kinowski, a nonunion employee of Northern Illinois University, says that since the budget stalemate the state has stopped sending workers’ insurance withholdings to the insurance companies and they’ve stopped covering medical expenses. Weeks-Kinowski says the state’s failure to forward those premium payments has left one-hundred-46-thousand workers, retirees and their families without coverage.
