According to WANDTV online , the University of Illinois is under a new recommendation to consider getting a new mascot. It was brought to the administration’s attention from the Ad Hoc Committee for the Exploration of a New Mascot submitting a report asking to change the mascot. Meetings had been held for the last 8 weeks with members of the community among students, alumni, faculty, and various groups around the school. During those meetings, it was discussed of whether to keep the Chief Illiniwek, get a new mascot, or be without one completely. When it came down to the decision it was unanimous that U of I will get a new mascot. It was voted by those various groups and the recommendation passed as well as they thought it would. This next week is when the Co-Chairs of the Committee will get together to discuss the report, and possibly decide of the new mascot.
