Betty L. Whalen Henderson, 88, of Newton, Illinois passed away at 6:00 am on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Illinois.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday April 19, 2016 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be on Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Hunt Cemetery.
Betty was born in Jasper County on June 29, 1927 to Hal & Reba (Moore) Romack. She married Bill Whalen in June 1946 and he preceded her in 1978. She later married Russell Henderson and he preceded her. Surviving is a son Rex Whalen and special friend Linda of Round Rock, TX; daughter Sandy (Herb) Steidinger of Charleston, IL; step daughter Janet Henderson of Newton; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Betty was preceded by her parents, a son Eric Whalen, step children Larry Henderson and Carol Volkman; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
Betty was a homemaker, member of the Rose Hill Science Club the Rose Hill Church. She loved to play Pinochle watch the Cubs and Illini Basketball. In lieu of flowers Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences can be expressed at www.barkleyfuneralchapels.com
