At last night’s meeting of the Charleston City Council, council members approved the balanced 2016-17 budget for the city. The general fund in the budget includes $13.06 million dollars in expenses and revenue. Also at last night’s meeting, the council approved the request for a street closure of the parking lanes closest to the Coles County Courthouse on the square for the annual farmers’ market on the square from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. June 1st, the first Wednesday in June, and continuing every Wednesday thereafter through Oct. 26th.
