The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that beginning May 16, 2016, weather permitting – Illinois 121 will be closed to all through traffic to allow for the reconstruction of the bridge over Long Point Creek. (Location: 8 miles north of Montrose or 8 miles northwest of Toledo on Illinois 121.)
Traffic will be detoured from Mattoon and Toledo via the Lerna and Burma Roads. A marked detour will be clearly signed and posted through those roads to accommodate the through traffic. The closure will remain in place until the bridge is completed and can be safely opened to traffic. The bridge is expected to be completed around August 15th, 2016 weather permitting. Local traffic will still be allowed access to each side of the bridge.
A.J. Walker Construction Company from Mattoon is the prime contractor and Rod Pearson is the Resident Engineer for the Department of Transportation. Questions concerning this project should be directed to Rod Pearson at the site office (217) 849-2742 or Bob Utz at the Effingham office at (217) 342-3951.
