Mattoon U.S. Grant Motel Closed

Mattoon’s U.S. Grant Motel was closed on Thursday of last week due to reports of violations of the city’s fire safety and electrical codes, including smoke and carbon monoxide alarms not functioning. The fire department gave the property owners time to correct these violations, but found that they had not been corrected during a follow up visit. Multiple buildings that are part of the U.S. Grant property have deteriorated to the point where the city has issued an order for them to be repaired or demolished.
