The Illinois State Police (ISP) in District 12 remind motorists to buckle up, before heading onto Illinois roadways, during the May 13-30, 2016 Click It or Ticket mobilization. Troopers will be conducting seatbelt patrols, encouraging all vehicle occupants to wear seatbelts, in order to reduce traffic crash fatalities.
Fatal traffic crashes in District 12 have increased 80% this year; as compared to the same time period last year. In order to combat these rising fatal crash numbers, the Illinois State Police in District 12 will be staffing dozens of extra patrols to focus on the fatal four violations of failure to wear Seatbelt, Distracted Driving, Speeding and DUI. These four violations are most often the contributing factors in fatal crashes.
Late night hours are the most dangerous driving hours, when the highest percentage of motorists die in alcohol-involved crashes, and seat belt usage is the lowest.
“Traffic safety is an ISP priority”, said District 12 Commander, Captain Kelly Hodge. “One fatality is one too many. Remember to buckle up and increase your family’s chance to arrive alive”, added Captain Hodge.
As of January 1, 2012, seat belt use is required in all seating positions — front seat and back! The best defense against an impaired driver is a seat belt. Buckle up! Every trip, every time – day or night.
