(Springfield, IL) — A new report is indicating Illinois government employees are the highest-paid in the country. The Illinois Policy Institute says the average annual salary for state government workers is just over 59-thousand dollars, which is about 10-thousand dollars higher than the national average. The report adds state worker salaries have increased by 41-percent since 2005. A statement from the conservative think tank says based on that data, the state can’t afford the contract being fought for by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
